I am a big fan of swords or just about any type. As far as weapons go, they are my absolute favorite. While I understand the importance of the inventions of combat (from the bow and arrow to modern firearms), there is something about the sword that appeals to a primal side in me. The amount of skill it took to be proficient with a sword is something that few people in today’s world have the patience to learn. It is a craft that has faded over the years, and I find that unfortunate. While there are still sword masters who teach the skills (mostly as stage combat), it is just not the same. At least in Japan they still study kendo, but the art of the European style swords is slowly slipping away. I suppose that is one of the many reason I collect swords. It is the best way I know to hold onto the legacy of the weapon that I adore.
